Open Championship 2016
As a resident of Troon, Paul Gallagher enjoyed a rare insight to 2016 Open Championship at Royal Troon. Months before the spectators descended on the seaside town in Ayrshire, the infrastructure had been moved into place by organisers, the R&A. We carried out a number of key interviews in the lead up to The Open and The Irish Times and Irish Golfer Magazine carried preview feature articles; the former taking a closer look at the challenges the course would present and the latter exploring the impact of the oldest Major in golf coming to the town of Troon. During tournament week, we spent another week reporting on the Junior Open at Kilmarnock (Barassie) GC for the R&A before contributing to The Irish Times' daily coverage, culminating in Henrik Stenson's famous win over Phil Mickelson.
